MHA+ Skills Community
The MHA+ Skills Community brings together framework suppliers, member authorities, consultants and professional bodies to address the skills needs of the highways industry.
Working with the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) it launched in October 2010 as the CITB MHA Skills Academy. In 2025, it extended its remit to build capacity and capability for MHA+ skills and workforce development, reinforcing a culture of collaboration between all MHA+ partners.
What we do
The MHA+ Skills Community has a wide-ranging remit, including:
- running a Learning Management System (LMS), offering construction and highways learning, as well as leadership and management training
- supporting community and school-based engagement projects, delivered by MHA+ framework contractors, as part of our commitment to social value and to encouraging construction as a career choice
- delivering learning, training and development in partnership with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT), the Institute of Asset Management (IAM) and the Transport Planning Society (TPS)
- supporting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Ambassadors, who volunteer to inspire young people into STEM careers
Framework suppliers, member authorities, consultants and professional bodies work together to develop training and skills opportunities for their staff, their supply chains and local communities. Our MHA+ learning and development policy ensures equity and efficiency in how this is delivered.
