Our Webinars and Lunch & Learn series continues with a fantastic line-up of sessions throughout April and May. From legal liability to AI innovation and carbon reporting, there is something for every highways professional.
Wednesday 22 April – Riparian Liability
Ian Quayle of IQ Legal Training and Ryan Thomas from Waterman Aspen guide us through riparian liability covering flooding, water flow and blockages, trash screens, and general riparian rights and ownership. An essential session for anyone dealing with watercourse-related responsibilities.
Monday 27 April – The Well Managed Highway Infrastructure Code of Practice
AtkinsRéalis, who are leading the refresh of the Code, will provide an overview of this important update for 2026. The session covers the drivers for change, key themes, how the project is being run and how MHA+ members can get involved. Open to all colleagues involved in highway asset management, structures, lighting, sustainability and procurement. No prior knowledge of the Code required.
Wednesday 29 April – Research Led Innovation in Winter Service Operations with Amey
William Beazley (National Highways) and Stephen Morgan (Amey) share findings from a major R&D programme exploring salt spread rates and liquid de-icing techniques across the strategic road network. Undertaken with National Highways, Transport Scotland and the University of Nottingham, this session explores how the evidence base can enhance local authority winter service decision-making.
Thursday 30 April – Department for Transport: PAS 2161 Road Condition Monitoring Standard
We welcome the Department for Transport for an important session on PAS 2161, Road Condition Monitoring Standard, covering the key points of the standard and how local authorities must fulfil their road condition data reporting requirements for national reporting to DfT.
Thursday 7 May – AI Smart Scheduling Proof of Value Trial
West Northamptonshire Council and Kier – winners of a MHA+ Best Use of Technology 2025 award – present the results of their AI Smart Scheduling trial. The project delivered measurable improvements in cost-efficiency, productivity, sustainability and service delivery, with real evidence of reduced travel time, lower fuel consumption and significant cost savings.
Tuesday 12 May – Route Reports: AI-Driven Maintenance Platform
Andy Donaghue from Route Reports demonstrates their Automated Road Inspections solution, showing how their AI-driven platform brings together PAS 2161, safety inspections and work management integration in a single system. Hear how council clients are already putting this into practice.
Thursday 14 May – Quantifiable Carbon Guidance and Mandatory Reporting Requirements with AECOM
AECOM’s air quality emissions team unpacks the DfT Local Transport Quantifiable Carbon Guidance and the Vehicle Emissions Carbon Tool (VECAT), covering methodology, datasets, hybrid fuel technologies, local air quality interpretation, and how to ensure a robust and compliant approach.
All sessions are free and open to MHA+ member local authorities and partner organisations. Feel free to share with relevant colleagues.
