Consultation Now Live: Well-Managed Highway Infrastructure Code of Practice

The consultation for the updated Well-Managed Highway Infrastructure Code of Practice is now open, and we are encouraging all MHA+ members and practitioners to share their feedback before the extended closing date of Sunday 14 June 2026.

First published in 2016, the Code has been a cornerstone of highway asset management across the UK for nearly a decade. It established a risk-based approach to managing highway infrastructure that has helped local authorities balance national consistency with the flexibility needed to reflect local circumstances.

Following the AtkinsRéalis presentation to MHA+ members on 27 April 2026, a structured review has been underway since summer 2025 to ensure the Code continues to reflect current policy, funding pressures, and the public expectations placed on highway networks today.

How to Respond

Feedback is welcome on as many or as few sections of the draft Code as you wish. Responses are encouraged at an individual level, but submissions on behalf of a wider team or organisation are equally welcome.

You can access the draft Code and the consultation form via the UK Roads Leadership Group website.

Why Your Input Matters

MHA+ is proud to encourage its members in engaging with this process. The Code directly affects how highway teams across the country plan, manage and maintain their networks, and your frontline experience is exactly what is needed to ensure the final version is practical, clear and fit for purpose. Your collective voice carries real weight in shaping guidance that will influence the sector for years to come.

Get in Touch
