Accessibility

This accessibility statement applies to https://www.mhaplus.org.uk/, which is run by the Midlands Highway Alliance Plus partnership.

We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website, with text that should be as simple as possible to understand. All content is created to meet the WGAG 2.2 accessibility standards, and is made to be compatible with assistive technology.

For example, that means you should be able to:

  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

Midlands Highway Alliance is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

Non-accessible content

  • 1.1.1 Non-text Content
All images have appropriate, equivalent alternative text.
The alternative text of all images and icons on the website will need to be manually reviewed. Currently if an image is the only element within a link, and the alternative text is missing for that image, alternative text is generated automatically based on the filename of the image.
  • 2.4.4 Link Purpose (In Context)
Links with the same text should go to the same location (URL).
On pages such as https://www.mhaplus.org.uk/work-streams/professional-services/psp-4-supporting-documents-2/, there are multiple links using the same text (e.g. “Contract Data PSSC”) but different links – in this case, different formats of the same document. To fix this, each link should be unique, to enable screen-readers and other tools to distinguish between them. Including the format of the documents (e.g. “Contract Data PSSC – PDF format”) would fix this.
  • 4.1.1 Parsing
Significant HTML validation/parsing errors are avoided.
Stray closing tags are in place on some templates. Though this doesn’t affect the usability of the site, it should still be fixed where possible in the future, though may require a larger overhaul of the templates.
